The following
research is given as validation that you can defeat prostate cancer with
nutrition and natural compounds. Do not let anyone tell you that
nutrition is not powerful medicine and after your PSA levels plummet,
that we are only masking the cancer.
Study: Strict diet and
exercise stop prostate cancer-
93 men took part in
year long study in which half were randomly assigned to the Ornish diet
and lifestyle regimen; the others weren't asked to vary their usual
routines. The researchers sent participants' blood samples to Memorial
Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York to measure PSA, or prostate
specific antigen, a marker used to track prostate cancer growth. After
one full year ALL the men in the diet and life style group were better
while ALL
the men that were watching and waiting got worse.

Deferred
treatment safe for low grade prostate cancer-.
It is not clear whether men diagnosed with low-grade, localized prostate
cancer need immediate, aggressive treatment such as radical
prostatectomy (removal of the prostate gland) or radiation therapy. A
group of American and Australian researchers now report that deferring
treatment until clear progression of the cancer is evident may be a
safe, acceptable alternative Journal of Urology, Vol. 171, April 2004,
Watchful
waiting may be best option for prostate cancer
This approach, "watchful waiting" or "expectant management", is used
extensively and successfully in Europe.
Recent studies have shown that there is no clear evidence that prostate
surgery improves the overall survival of patients especially older ones.
As one doctor put it "most patients die with prostate cancer rather than
of it."

localised prostate cancer? The Lancet, Vol. 344, September 10, 1994, pp.
40% OF
PROSTATECTOMIES FAIL-close to
40% of men who undergo a radical prostatectomy will have a PSA relapse
within two years. This means
that they had disease that was outside of the prostate that was not
obvious to the surgeon or the pathologist. It means that if the man
lives long enough, metastatic disease will kill him. The problem I have
is that people are not open and honest about all the controversies, and
this extends to people being not open and honest about the treatments,
once prostate cancer is diagnosed. Men tend to get railroaded toward
radical prostatectomy or to external-beam radiation, or to seed
implants. Interview with Otis Brawley, MD

LINOLIC ACID
can reduce prostate cancer, this is a fatty acid which is found in
vegetables. Reported by Reuters news 8-19-2004. The effect of lycopene
alone or in association with other antioxidants was studied on the
growth of two different human prostate carcinoma cell lines (the
androgen insensitive DU-145 and PC-3). It was found that lycopene alone
was not a potent inhibitor of prostate carcinoma cell proliferation.
However, the simultaneous addition of lycopene together with
alpha-tocopherol (vitamin E), at physiological concentrations (less than
1 microM and 50 microM, respectively), resulted in a strong inhibitory
effect of prostate carcinoma cell proliferation, which reached values
close to 90 %. The effect of lycopene with alpha-tocopherol was
synergistic and was not shared by beta-tocopherol, ascorbic acid and
probucol.

SELENIUM
cuts cancer risk by 63% according to a 10 year study. Reported by CNN
6-17-1999 After 13 years of
follow-up the researchers concluded that study participants with a
plasma selenium level of 0.12-0.19 ppm had a 50% lower incidence of
advanced prostate cancer than did men with a level of 0.06-0.09 ppm. The
correlation was only apparent in men with a PSA
level of more than 4 ng/mL and was particularly strong for those with a
baseline (1982) PSA level
greater than 10 ng/mL. For these men a high selenium level corresponded
to a 70% decrease in the risk of advanced prostate cancer. They conclude
that selenium is perhaps not too effective in preventing the initiation
of prostate cancer, but that it is highly effective in slowing down
tumor progression. They believe that selenium acts by selectively
killing off cells whose DNA has been extensively damaged, by inhibiting
cellular proliferation, and by its role as a key component of
glutathione peroxidase, which protects cells from peroxide damage.

PLASTIC
LINKED TO PC- Component of
plastic stimulates growth of certain prostate cancer cells. An
estrogen-like chemical commonly used to synthesize plastic food
containers has been shown to encourage the growth of a specific category
of prostate cancer cell, potentially affecting the treatment efficacy
for a subset of prostate cancers. According
to a study published in the January 1 issue of Cancer Research, such
prostate cancer cells proved to be vulnerable to exposure to the
chemical BPA (bisophenol A), an industrial chemical and nonsteroidal
environmental estrogen used in the manufacture of food cans, milk
container linings, food storage containers and water supply pipes. About
2.5 billion pounds of the chemical are produced each year.

Aspirin- Regular use of aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory
drugs (NSAIDs) seems to reduce the risk of developing various cancers,
including prostate cancer. Now it appears that such drugs may help men
with prostate cancer live longer, according to a Fox Chase Cancer Center
study. Soy
isoflavones are powerful antioxidants demonstrated to inhibit
5-alpha-reductase (5AR), an enzyme implicated in prostate disease
development. In one study, men who consumed soy milk more than once per
day decreased their prostate cancer risk by 70% compared to those men
who did not consume soy milk. Lab studies have also found soy
isoflavones to inhibit the growth of prosate cancer cells.

may inhibit prostate disease development by stimulating your body's
binding protein that keep testosterone hormone bound. Bound testosterone
exerts less hormonal effect on the prostate gland. It is theorized that
bound testosterone reduces the amount of free testosterone being
converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the more active and dangerous
form of testosterone. J Endocrinol. 1995 147(2):295-302, Cancer Causes

VITAMIN E-
In a 1998 study published in the Journal of the National Cancer
Institute, male Finnish smokers were given either 50 IU of vitamin E or
placebo (sugar pill) per day. The men who took the vitamin E supplement
reduced their incidence of prostate cancer by 32%, and reduced their
risk of death from prostate cancer by 41%. In another study,
researchers discovered that one form of vitamin E, gamma-tocopherol, to
have value as an anti-cancer agent. Gamma-tocopherol occurs naturally in
plant seeds such as walnuts, pecans and sesame seeds. In yet another
study, gamma-tocopherol inhibited the production of lab-cultured human
prostate cancer cells. And although the presence of gamma-tocopherol
caused cell death by interrupting the synthesis of sphingolipids
(certain fatty molecules, which are important components of cell
membranes), it left healthy human prostate cells unaffected. As
researchers increased the amount of gamma-tocopherol, cancer cells
slowed in growth and healthy cells grew normally [Proceedings of the

Resveratrol
Good news for
men concerned about prostate cancer: resveratrol is a supplement that
blocks it at every stage, from beginning to end. A polyphenol found in
grapes and other plants, resveratrol was first identified as a
multistage protector in 1997, and now is considered a leading agent
against prostate cancer by researchers at Houston’s MD Anderson Cancer
Center and other institutions. Resveratrol works through more than a
dozen
different anticancer
mechanisms and selectively targets cancer cells. This single supplement
modulates hormones, has several mechanisms that stop cancer cells from
multiplying, and even has the ability to destroy cancer cells.

Omega-6 fatty acids cause prostate tumor cell growth in culture;
August
1, 2005. A study conducted at the San Francisco VA Medical Center (SFVAMC)
has demonstrated that omega-6 fatty acids such as the fat found in
corn oil promote the growth of prostate tumor cells in the
laboratory. All meat which has been fed grains have omega 6 fats.
All meat which has been fed grass or sea weed has beneficial omega 3
fat.
POMEGRANITE-
A new study by
University of Wisconsin Medical School researchers states that
pomegranate extract may fight against prostate cancer. The research
team then progressed to tests in mice that had been injected with
prostate cancer cells from humans and developed malignancies. The
mice receiving the higher concentration of pomegranate extract
showed significant slowing of their cancer progression and a
decrease in the levels of prostate-specific antigen (PSA), a marker
used to indicate the presence of prostate cancer in humans. The
animals that received only water had tumors that grew much faster
than those in the animals treated with pomegranate extract.
